Quarishi’s interest in traces of humans presence made him develop a work on lost objects. In South Africa he got fascinated by the amount of lost shoes in the streets. Every shoe a reference to human existence. Quraishi has put the photo’s of these forgotten existences in the frame of a traffic sign. Signs that normally give clear directions about what to do or not to do. The shoes actually only shows us one fact; That they have been walking. But we do not any thing about if they walked the right or wrong direction. The civil law can not be applied to traces of human existence.
